"Married to the Mob: Guiding Light's Michelle Weds Danny"

A premed student with her nose always stuck in a book, Guiding Light's Michelle    Bauer had midterms -- not marriage -- on her mind. When she took study breaks,    they were with her devoted beau, Jesse. So how did Michelle end up tying the knot    with mobster Danny Santos, a guy she hardly knew, never mind loved?

Do Or Die: At the beach one night, Michelle found drug dealer Mick Santos menacing nightclub owner Drew for turning him into the police. When Michelle stepped in to save her pal, Mick grabbed the coed and threatened to rape her. A stuggle ensued. To Michelle and Drew's horror, Mick died after Michelle struck him on the head with a rock. The girls fled and confessed their crime to sympathetic Jesse and Bill. After much discussion, the foursome agreed to keep their mouths shut and not tell the police for fear that Mick's associates would seek revenge.

A Desperate PlanAn Eye For An Eye: Mick's brother, Danny, showed up to find the murderer. Sent by his Mafia mama, Carmen, to rub out the guilty party, Danny was prepared to follow orders. But upon discovering that the culprit was sweet Michelle, he couldn't go through with it. In order to trick henchman Dietz into believing all was going according to plan, Danny faked shooting Michelle, who fell into the river.

Afterward, he fished her out and had a justice of the peace marry them to ensure her safety. Even Carmen wouldn't kill her own daughter-in-law, Danny reasoned.

Blessed by the ChurchDangerous Liaison: But the civil union didn't mollify the crafty matriarch, who suspected that Danny had wed out of chivalry, not love. Working to split up the couple, Carmen announced that she wouldn't accept Danny and Michelle's union unless it was blessed by the church. Because Michelle's life depended on winning Carmen's approval, the couple agreed. That's how Michelle (dressed in her mother-in-law's bridal gown) ended up marching down the aisle in front of a sneering Carmen and a heartbroken Jesse to exchange holy vows that would further bind her to Danny's powerful, dangerous family.

Always And Forever? Michelle nearly fainted when the priest announced that it was time to exchange vows. Steadying Michelle by placing his hands on her shoulders, Danny graciously offered to speak first.

"Sometimes, people meet each other under very unusual circumstances. We did. I certainly didn't expect to meet someone like you, and I know you didn't plan on meeting a guy like me. But by divine providence or fate or just plain luck, we were thrown together. I know that you are a treasure to be cherished and to be revered. Michelle, I promised to do everything in my power to keep you safe and to make you happy. What we have between us will grow with you as my wife, and I as you husband."

Michelle meekly replied, "Daniel, from now on, I put my life, my fate, into your hands."

Band of GoldA Lingering Kiss   After reciting traditional promises to love, honor and cherish one another, Danny    and Michelle exchanged wedding bands. They were pronounced husband and    wife, and shared a surprisingly warm, lingering kiss. Will this unlikely couple find    love after all?
