"Performer of the Week ... Paul Anthony Stewart (Danny, Guiding Light")

When Danny Santos came to Springfield to avenge his brother's death, we assumed the mobster was bad to the bone. But over the past few months, we've seen that Danny isn't all bad, or all good, for that matter. He's unpredictable. And since Paul Anthony Stewart plays sweet as adroitly as he plays sinister, we never know how Danny will react.

'Do you know what I told my mother I'd do to you if you betrayed me?' After he learned that Michelle had tipped off the FBI about his family's criminal activities, Danny's dark side emerged. He made Michelle uneasy by kneading his hands into her shoulders. Gripping his wife's throat, Danny struggled to keep his anger in check. Would Michelle's betrayal cause Danny to finally snap?

Luckily for Michelle, Danny discovered that Mama Carmen had a hand in the raid. Filled with guilt for doubting his wife, the sweet, caring Danny returned. As he danced with Michelle, he spoke softly and gazed lovingly into her eyes until she confessed that she had been in touch with the feds. Usually, Danny can't stop looking at Michelle, but the pain and sadness he felt at that moment was so great, he had to look away. "Do you know what I told my mother I'd do to you if you betrayed me?" he asked, his voice turning from soft to steely. "Do you know what I told myself I'd do?" We knew Danny was hurting, but did he want to cry about Michelle or kill her?

Danny is a man of great passion -- you wouldn't want him for an enemy, but couldn't ask for a more steadfast friend. And Stewart plays the part with such fervor that we're drawn into every scene. Big-hearted Danny believes in family loyalty, but stands up to his mother when he thinks she's gone too far. Witnessing Danny do things like sneak his grandmother forbidden chocolates have struck a chord with Michelle. Can we help but become wrapped around Danny's finger, as well?
