"The Strength of a Woman"

I was a little irritated that Drew's behavior on Friday was taken as a sign of strength [and I] disagree with [this assessment of her] character and her behavior on Friday. That was a reactive behavior in my opinion, typical of Drew's worst instincts (in pain? lash out first, regret later), not that of a young woman who was working hard at getting her self-esteem back and overcoming her inferiority complex towards Michelle.

What she did Friday couldn't have been any more regressive and in my case a huge disappointment as I was growing to like her and rooting for her budding friendship with Michelle. When I first heard what would happen this time last week, I felt like she'd stabbed me in the back. I can only imagine what Michelle would feel. I also disagree in that I view Michelle as a stronger person than Drew and a definite match for Danny. Drew's seemingly blase view of life always struck me as more of a defense system, it wasn't based on something real and solid, and it certainly wasn't strength in my eyes. Michelle as played by Joie Lenz has in her a quiet core of strength that I appreciate in people. It's not loud (certainly not loud like the Lewises/Shaynes' brand of strength), but it's real and solid. She's also resilient and a fighter, in how she's tried in her own naive and clumsy ways to take charge of her life, fight for her freedom when it'd been brutally taken away from her.

She didn't plot against Danny to get back to Jesse (definitely not a victim of the "I live for my man" virus), but to get her life back, her normal life along with the things she used to take for granted. She's actually becoming more and more like Danny, in how she tries to care of her own problems (the "I created this mess, I'll take care of it" attitude) and face them instead of running away. (Which, in my opinion, was the whole point of Jesse's daydream on the wedding day, she no longer was the girl in that dream and Jesse just didn't get it.)

I definitely don't think she's less of a match for Danny (his dark side included - I love his dark side. I'd never go for something that might jeopardize it) because she may not be as worldly as Drew. Drew may act like a tough girl but she has yet to live up to that reputation, she always backed out when it mattered that she takes a stand. Most of her manipulations that [a Drew-fan poster] credits as strength have been in reaction to how she was affected by Michelle. That's not strength, nor being active, that's an inferiority complex speaking.

She has no reason to feel inferior to Michelle, and none other than Michelle herself made it clear to her the day that she went to pick up her stuff at the Millennium apartment. (a turning point for both of them) It's disappointing that Drew's falling back into that trap now.
