"Yummy Danny and Happy Michelle"
(The July 21st episode - Michelle/Drew & Danny/Josh)

By kristi k.

Despite the Drew/Michelle nonsense (which actually might have made some sense had the writers made the effort to explore a few issues along the way), I absolutely, positively loved seeing Michelle blissfully happy (especially her serene "I'm very happy" admission), and I think that explains to a certain extent her willingness to forgive, forget and move on. (But then again, my problem has always been with the characterization of reformed Drew, not Michelle's.)

Right now, she's in a place where no one, nothing can touch her, and even though I'm not one to get sentimental easily (really, I'm not :-)), I felt sad for her (rather keenly) watching those scenes juxtaposed with the Danny/Josh scenes, knowing how short-lived that happiness would be ....

I must have been really starved for Danny to interact with someone who wasn't part of his immediate circle and was not antagonistic to him, as I replayed his scenes with Josh over and over again. Reserved maybe, but not antagonistic, that alone was a welcome change. Another aspect that I found very refreshing was Danny the listener, to which we're not often exposed (Mrs. Silva is the only other instance that comes to mind) because of his status as leading man on the show. (Usually supporting characters listen while the main characters pour their hearts out.)

In this case, he was listening to someone else's problems, for a change, and we saw his ability to empathize coming to surface. I think he has as big a heart as Michelle's, but he doesn't let his emotions get the better of him easily, taking the time to assess the situation, how far he can help, whereas Michelle can sometimes get a wee bit reckless in her eagerness to help, plunging headlong.

This entire situation is absurd and crazy, even the rescue attempt, yet there was something very reassuring about Danny's level-headed "offer", you knew this was someone you could count on through this madness. Not that he cuts a white knight figure ... dressed in black, the illegal means ... slight reminders that this is Josh's "pact with the devil." And not that I was bothered by this, love the ambiguity.
