The Rustle of the Sheets . . .
Essay #143
"Woods and Woulds Indeed!"
By Melissa
Well, it was Danny's Rapunzel comment that first made me pull out
"Into the Woods" -- seeing the parallel between Rapunzel-witch
dynamics and Pilar-Carmen. And if I remember correctly, the "Little
Red Riding Hood with the flowers/fox" and "Cinderella at the steps"
scenarios/lyrics that meghan just brought up were exactly the same
things I thought of back then. Scary how our minds spin in these
same directions :-) I've always liked the music and lyrics for "No
one is alone" (oh hells bells, what am I saying, I LOVE the whole
musical!) -- and I totally agree that many questions raised there are very
similar to the ones running through the Manny story.
Anyway, about this love trip to the forest -- you know what else I'm
starting to think about? A Midsummer Night's Dream baby!!!
Love-nookies and possibly naked little creatures aside, we have the
young lovers running away from family trouble, well sort of...
reality or fantasy/dreams!!! ... Hmmmm, do you think we'll see any
fairies? Not that Danny or Michelle needs any magical potion to help
them ... errr...
So how many Shakespeare plays have we hit so far, and how many more
lies ahead, just waiting for our over-analysis and comparisons?
