"It is sort of hard to say that Danny is surprised that his mother has lied again," Paul Anthony Stewart (Danny) says of Carmen's confession at the church. "But he is definitely furious, and I think the seed of doubt has always been in him. Especially since Michelle has been mentioning her theory as to who was behind the shooting. Danny is pretty on the ball about things, and he has been waiting for the cards to fall into place. When they do, Danny's worst feelings about his mother are confirmed. It is a heavy, dark day for the family."
Pilar comes to Carmen's defense, which creates a rift between Danny and his sister. "This is another confirmation of how unmotherly his mother is," Stewart continues. "Michelle, at that point, convinces Danny to remain a part of the family, because the bombing incident is not resolved. Carmen yet again manipulates Danny into feeling responsible for the bombing, because he has stirred up trouble trying to make their family [legit]. It's an attempt to, of course, resolve the shooting. Yet again, Carmen has made Danny feel guilty and responsible. Danny feels the pull to right his wrong and make sure everyone else is safe -- mainly his sister and Michelle. Michelle chooses at that time to stay with Danny, despite the danger and the risk."
That doesn't go over well with Rick, who hightails it over to the Santos Mansion and tells Danny that if he loves Michelle he will let her go so that she won't be in danger. Concerned for Michelle, Danny has the idea to ship her off to San Cristobel until things are safe again.
"But Michelle refuses and says she needs her husband by her side and stands up to Rick as well," Stewart says, "Danny respects her wishes."
Unfortunately -- because at week's end, Danny's worst nightmare comes true. "Danny and Michelle go to the lighthouse, and he gets an anonymous call saying there is another bomb threat," Stewart explains, "this time at their Santos house. Danny, of course, runs off" -- and Michelle is kidnapped. "Danny doesn't know who did it. Of course, his first natural response it to accuse his mother. Why wouldn't it be her?"
