"Thumbs Up! -- Danny, Oh, Boy!" -- 2/9/99

Guiding Light's less-than-scintillating quadrangle involving Michelle, Jesse, Drew and Bill needed a jump-start. (Watching their adolescent sparring and whining was a yawn.) Then, junior mob man Danny Santos burst onto the scene seeking revenge for the death of his brother Mick and bam! Instant electricity, danger and excitement.

Danny Boy

Instead of fretting about who would date who, Springfield's younger set suddenly had something more important to worry about - their lives. After Drew and Michelle killed sleazy Mick in self-defense, they covered up the crime with Jesse and Bill's help. Later, Drew told Danny that Michelle was the murderer. Part of Danny wanted Michelle to pay, but another part had fallen for her. When push came to shove, Danny made Michelle his bride in order to save her from the mob's vengeance.

Obviously, it's just the beginning of this tangled plot. Michelle may dream of Jesse, but she's bound to Danny - and her life depends on convincing mob boss (and mother-in-law) Carmen that she loves her new hubby. And, of course, the field is open for Drew to move in on a bewildered and dejected Jesse.

As Danny, the talented Paul Anthony Stewart (whom Loving viewers remember as Casey) is a perfect complement to Joie Lenz, who has been doing fine work since being cast as Michelle. Who knows where this pairing will go? The weather may be cold in Springfield, but things are just starting to heat up for this young bunch.
