"I've Had It and I'm Not Gonna Take It Anymore! I Want Emotional Pittstops!"

By Erica

I've been reading several posts from disgruntled Mannyacs about how Manny is either throwing around "I love you" too much, or how their love scenes are rather tame. I think the problem is that TPTB decided to rush Manny and skipped over several key scenes that we would like to have seen. I really don't care about the mob stuff or Danny's relationship with La Familia. I just see them as tools to give Manny a bunch of conflict to overcome to get to the "glory of love" part -- you know, the part that most women 18-49 are really interested in. So, I'm a little (ok, a LOT) miffed that TPTB have skipped over several pivotal moments in their relationship:

1) After The Shower Scene, when did Michelle decide that she and Danny were going to reconcile?? He's wooing her on her bed, she almost says yes, but then the phone rings. The next Manny alone scene we had was Michelle telling Ddanny that he was in her blood. OK, how does she get from Point A ("Danny, you're not misunderstood, you're a gangster") to Point B ("You're in my blood")? There was some serious talking that Manny should have done and some serious convincing that Danny had to do to get to that point. Instead, TPTB just had Michelle decide "That's it! We're together!"

2) Not to mention the fact that Michelle never outright SAID that she forgave Danny for sleeping with Drew. He explained and she said "Danny, please don't make this my fault." He explained and apologized some more but she never really said "Okay, I forgive you. It was a screwed up time and we were both confused. I just want to start over." Nope. Once again, just the "You're in my blood" statement. I had to ask my roommate "Did she forgive him or what?"

3) "I love you." THIS pisses me off the MOST! Okay, it was more of a milestone for Danny to say "you know why," than it was the first time they said "I love you." It was more of a "let's tell everyone else we love each other but forget that the first time we say those three little words is a key moment in our relationship and should be treated with reverence!" I, for one, always wait with baited breath for couples to say these words. There was no leading up to it, no nervousness on Manny's part when they finally said it. I told myself it was more romantic that they just knew, but I was wrong. I wanted a big emotional confession! I realize they said it through the window at Cedars (that scene broke my heart), but that wasn't the first time. Michelle would say it. Danny would say it. They would say it to others ... I got all confused.

4) The proposal. What friggin' proposal? Danny pretty much TOLD her they were going to renew their vows. She smiled and they came back from commercial already having talked about it. I'm pretty sure we got gypped out of a scene during the commercial. I wanted something like this "Michelle, I know we didn't start out normally, but I would be honored if you would renew our wedding vows with me. Will you marry me ... again?" And then Michelle could squeal and yell "YES!" I wanted that "YES!"

5) The RING! That piddly little ring Michelle is wearing ain't cutting it for me, Danny boy. I want to see a diamond! Danny did "propose" (see #4), Couldn't he have whipped out a diamond engagement ring? Y'all good ol' Mobster boys DO have a bunch of money, dontcha? 'Cause Michelle looks like she's wearing a cigar band.

6) The love making. This has always been the big issue between Manny, ever since the infamous "use your imaginations because Paul Anthony Stewart has the flu" ink blots non-scene." I'm happy that Manny finally did it, really. BUT... the almost-love making was more intense! Every time Michelle tried to, even after she realized she DID feel something for Danny, she always froze up. Danny was always tentative, fearing rejection and we got such beautiful questions like "Are you okay?"

I realize they've pretty much resolved that the want to be together, but Danny could still have been feeling a little insecure and Michelle could have reassured him that this time it was REAL. Nope. They just made out on the flower-strewn bed in the forest.

7) Let's talk about the Forest Bed. I swear, I expected doves to come down and lift the sheets to cover Manny or to see little mice sewing a dress together for Michelle to wear to a ball or something. Let's not do that again, okay?

Sorry for the vent. This in no way means that I don't still lovelove Manny. HOWEVER, I feel that Manny is the best and most interesting couple on the show and I'm upset that we've been gypped out of milestones that all SuperCouple fans get to see. If TPTB want us to remain interested, they better not do that in the future.

8) Finally, as much as I love Manny, they met eight months ago. They are already happily married. Huh? I think TPTB would have done better to drag the sexual tension and the make-up period out longer.

Just my opinion, of course.

Erica -- I've been patient and understanding, but I've HAD IT.
